3/27/2008 – “SHE LEFT ME FOR JESUS” (performed by Hayes Carll and co-written by Brian Keane) is this week’s iTunes free Discovery single of the week.  Many of you might have heard Brian [nervously] perform this controversial yet funny, song on stage over the last few months.  The song, a first-hand narration of a spurned ex-boyfriend, describes this angry, yet very obtuse, man’s accusations that his now ex-girlfriend is dating some new guy named “Jesus”.  After listing several significant changes in her behaviors and habits, the narrator clearly demonstrates a complete ignorance of the actual biblical identity of the new-found love.

Hayes and Brian sat down last summer and penned this irreverent tune one afternoon during a co-writing session in Austin, TX.  Carll chose to record the song during the production process of his April 8th Lost Highway Records release Trouble in Mind. Brian Keane has since relocated to Nashville to pursue more writing opportunities and finish his next album.
